As stated in this press release
from www.paulmccartney.com, The UK CD single for "Jenny Wren" has been
moved up to November 21st:
PAUL MCCARTNEY TO RELEASE BRAND
NEW SINGLE JENNY WREN - NOVEMBER 21ST 2005
'Jenny Wren' is the second single
to be taken from Paul McCartney's new highly acclaimed album 'Chaos And
Creation In The Backyard'. Fast becoming a live favourite on Paul's
37-date sell-out 'US' tour of North America and Canada, 'Jenny Wren' is
classic Paul McCartney. The press have described 'Jenny Wren' as, "his
most poignant and affecting song in years" and "endearing and
unexpectedly affecting."
'Jenny Wren' is both a soulful
and mournful song with a simple and incredibly effective arrangement.
It's difficult not to be moved by the heart tugging melody. It's an
acoustic track in the style of much loved McCartney songs 'Mother
Nature's Son', 'Calico Sky' and 'Blackbird'. McCartney in fact
describes the track as "daughter of blackbird."
"I was in Los Angeles and I was
in one of those moods. I wanted to go and play my guitar in the great
outdoors. So I went into a spot in one of the canyons there, lovely
nature spot, getting away from all the traffic and sat down and started
playing. It's just that kind of genre that I love and I just had a lot
of fun, wrote the basis of it there outdoors in the canyon, lovely day,
went back home that night to where we were staying and sat around while
dinner was getting made and made it up. But it's funny actually I was
talking to someone about how much I love Dickens. And this person said
'Ah, Jenny Wren, our mutual friend,' which is this character in the
Dickens book Our Mutual Friend. She is this really cool little girl
who's sort of magical, who sees the good in things and I think
subconsciously that reminded me that's where I got it from. But to me
it was just something to do with Blackbird. A Wren is one of my
favourite birds - a little English bird, the smallest English bird a
nd I always feel very privileged
to see a wren. So it's a combination of all of that."
In a rock n' roll first 'Jenny
Wren' features a duduk solo. The duduk, an Armenian wind instrument, is
one of the oldest wind instruments in the world.
'Chaos And Creation In The
Backyard' was released in September to global critical acclaim. Upon
its release it went straight into the Top 10 of the album charts in
over 14 different countries across the world, including the UK and the
US. It's Paul's 20th studio album since leaving The Beatles and was
produced by Nigel Godrich. 'Chaos And Creation In The Backyard' is a
return to the basics for McCartney. The album successfully fuses his
undeniable song writing talents with his unparalleled musicianship. In
fact, McCartney is credited with playing the majority of the
instruments on the album, which is somewhat reminiscent of "McCartney"
(1970) when he was credited with playing all of the instruments. They
include the drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, as well as many of the less
traditional instruments such as block flute, harmonium and flugelhorn.
Paul McCartney is currently on
his fastest selling tour ever of the US. He plays 37 shows over three
months. Winning rave reviews the shows have attracted high profile fans
such as Tony Bennett, Steve Buscemi, Oasis and Lenny Kravitz. By the
end of November Paul will have played to over half a million people
across America.
'Chaos And Creation In The
Backyard' is available in all record stores across the UK.

The
remaining Lennon CD reissues
have been moved up to November 22nd. Here's the official press release:
Capitol
to reissue two John Lennon albums on November 22
(New York, NY) -- Following the
release of the Working Class Hero - the Definitive Lennon retrospective
2CD earlier this month, Capitol Records will reissue two Lennon
catalogue solo albums on November 22.
And www.johnlennon.com, the first
official John Lennon website, has been launched through a joint effort
between Yoko Ono and Capitol/EMI. Fans can browse an extensive
collection of Lennon photos, drawings and videos, as well as a
comprehensive historical timeline of his life.
Sometime in New York City and
Walls and Bridges are the latest releases in a campaign of reissues
featuring remixed and/or remastered tracks. Sometime in New York City
now appears as a single CD, condensed from the original double.
Sometime in New York City was
originally released in 1972. Tackling a range of issues including
feminism, black activism and unrest in Northern Ireland, the album
reflected the fact that John and Yoko had settled in New York and were
part of a radical, highly politicized arts scene centered around their
Greenwich Village apartment. It also reflected John's newfound love for
New York, a city he fondly called "a big Liverpool."
Sometime in New York City was
recorded with the group Elephant's Memory, featured several Yoko
compositions, and originally featured a bonus disc, "Live Jam," culled
from two sources. The first was a December 1969 gig by the Plastic Ono
Band at London's Lyceum. Billed as a "peace for Christmas" event, the
night saw John and Yoko joined onstage by guests including George
Harrison, Eric Clapton and Keith Moon.
The remaining tracks on the
original double album were taken from a surprise appearance at Frank
Zappa's Fillmore East show in June 1971. Yoko has now edited these
tracks for the reissued album, making the new version of the album a
concise single CD.
For this new single CD, "Listen,
The Snow is Falling" and "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" have been added.
"Happy Xmas" did not feature on the original album, although it
preceded its release when it was released as a single, backed with
"Listen, The Snow is Falling" in the U.S. in 1971 and in the U.K. a
year later. "Happy Xmas" has gone on to become one of the most popular
Christmas songs of all time and was the fulcrum around which John and
Yoko built their highly visible billboard peace campaigns, which would
dominate the most populated areas of major cities with the slogan "War
is over! If you want it. Happy Christmas from John and Yoko". Yoko
continues this idea to this day, often using billboards and newspaper
ads to spread the peace message.

except "John Sinclair" and "Attica State," which have been remastered.
Walls and Bridges was first
released in 1974 and features contributions from Elton John, Klaus
Voormann, Jesse Ed Davis, Jim Keltner and Nicky Hopkins. It gave John
his first solo #1 hit single with "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night"
and, perhaps because of the turmoil he was going through at the time,
proved to be a great album overall. This new edition features three
bonus tracks including a live version of "Whatever Gets You Through The
Night" recorded live at Madison Square Garden on November 28, 1974.
This was the legendary show where
Lennon made a surprise appearance with Elton, having lost a bet that
the song would top the chart. Elton challenged that John should repay
the favor by appearing onstage with him in a show that would go on to
attain legendary status for two reasons - it led to the reconciliation
of John and Yoko after John's 'lost weekend', and it would turn out to
be the last time John ever appeared on a public stage.
Two further bonus tracks are
"Nobody Loves You (When You're Down and Out)," a previously unreleased
acoustic outtake, and an interview recorded in L.A. from the b-side of
a special pressing of 'Whatever Gets You Thru The Night'.

events that came later. The Concert for Bangladesh brought together an
extraordinary group of major artists collaborating for a common
humanitarian cause. Organized by George Harrison, the event sold out
Madison Square Garden in New York City, generated millions of dollars
for UNICEF and raised awareness for the organization around the world.
The concert also resulted in a Grammy-winning triple-album box set and
feature film.
An exhibit dedicated to this
event will open in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s Circular
Gallery on October 20 and will run through March 26, 2006. The Rock
Hall will unveil the new exhibit at a special Members preview on
October 20, 2005.
"In an era where the all-star
benefit concert is a staple in the entertainment business, it’s
important to look back and see where it all started," said Jim Henke,
chief curator of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. "George
Harrison was the first rock star to be able to use his fame to not only
bring fellow artists together for a cause but create an awareness about
an issue that might have otherwise passed the world by."
Special
Members Only Event:
An intimate reception for Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum members will take place on October 20
at 7:00 p.m. Olivia Harrison, George Harrison’s widow, will be present
at the event. The night will include a special screening of “The
Concert For Bangladesh Revisited with George Harrison and Friends”
documentary followed by an exhibit tour and reception.
Tickets are $5 per person and
there is a 2-ticket limit for each member. Call 216.515.8427 starting
October 3 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Space is limited and is on a
first-come-first-serve basis.
The exhibit coincides with the
October 25, 2005, release of “The Concert For Bangladesh – George
Harrison & friends” on CD and DVD. The 2-DVD and 2-CD sets will
both be released by Apple Corps/Rhino. The DVD includes the original
99-minute film restored and remixed in 5.1, as well as 72-minutes of
extras. The extras feature a 45-minute documentary “The Concert For
Bangladesh Revisited with George Harrison & friends,” about the
background to the two shows with exclusive interviews and contributions
from UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and Sir Bob Geldof. There is also
previously unseen footage: “If Not For you,” featuring Harrison and Bob
Dylan from rehearsals, “Come On In My Kitchen” featuring Harrison, Eric
Clapton and Leon Russell at the sound check and a Bob Dylan performance
from the afternoon show of “Love Minus Zero/No Limit,” not included in
the original film.
The album of the concert has been
remixed and repackaged and will contain an additional track – the Bob
Dylan performances of Love Minus Zero/No Limit.”
About
the Concert for Bangladesh:
The concerts – there were
actually two concerts, both on August 1, 1971 – came about after Indian
musician Ravi Shankar approached Harrison about the crisis in
Bangladesh, where a brutal civil war had killed thousands of people and
forced even more people into exile. In the end, Harrison assembled an
all-star lineup that, in addition to himself and Ravi Shankar, included
Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell,
Klaus Voormann, Jim Keltner, Carl Radle, the members of Badfinger and
others. Artifacts in this exhibit include George Harrison’s original
lyrics to the song “Bangla Desh,” Ravi Shankar’s sitar, a vest worn by
Ringo Starr and a suit worn by Harrison at the concert, the original
album art and more.

October 9, 2005 - On what would have been John Lennon's 65th birthday: Sixty-five years ago today, an event
happened which would change the world. The man is gone but his
music, influence, legacy - and his dreams - live on. For those of
us who grew up while John Lennon was alive, just take a moment and
remember. If you're too young to remember, simply imagine....

October 6, 2005 - CD Plus has EMI Canada listings
for the remastered "Walls and
Bridges" and "Sometime In
New York City" reissues, both dated for November 8th.
A few comments on "Working Class
Hero: The Definitive Lennon" 2 CD set: What I thought would be a
redundant acquisition is more impressive than I anticipated. The
singles ("Instant Karma" ,
"Power To The People") use
the "Lennon Legend" DVD
mixes with extended fades, giving these familiar tracks a new
feel. The three newly remastered tracks from "Walls and Bridges" indicates
what we can look forward to from the upcoming reissue. "New York City" and "Come Together (Live)" are
represented in their best available sound quality. It's also good to
have the "John Lennon Anthology"
versions of "I'm Losing You"
and "Grow Old With Me"
available on a comprehensive "best of" compilation.
Anyone who is impressed with the recent Lennon remasters or the "Lennon Legend" DVD will
appreciate the uniformly excellent sound quality on this release.
Lennon completists will take note of the "Lennon Legend" DVD mixes now
being available on CD. Casual fans who are looking for a single
purchase, quick fix of Lennon can't go wrong with this compilation. The
track selection and sequencing is quite good. "Working Class Hero" has enough
variations and differences to be of interest to long time fans while
being a great value to the casual fan.

Cynthia Lennon. The woman who was
John Lennon's wife as the Beatles emerged from nowhere tells the story
of life with the late singer. "The time has come when I feel ready to
tell the truth about John and me, our years together, and the years
since his death," she writes. "There is so much that I have never said,
so many incidents I have never spoken of, and so many feelings I have
never expressed - great love on the one hand, pain, torment and
humiliation on the other." The book has an introduction by Julian
Lennon, the son she had with John. She'll sign and talk Tuesday night
