BBC Radio 2 "Beatles Christmas Special":
On December 27th, BBC Radio 2 will
broadcast a 2 hour documentary style radio special which "focuses on the
traditional Christmas records which were sent out exclusively to
Beatles fan club members from 1963-1969. These recordings not only
featured Christmas songs by the Beatles, but also include entertaining
ad-libs and pantomime banter between all 4 Beatles, which provide a
fascinating insight into how their lives changed dramatically between
`63 & `69." The special is
available online at the following link: BBC
- Radio 2 - A Beatles Christmas . For more details, see the
following article by Martin Lewis: WhatGoesOn - BBC
to air Beatles Christmas Radio Special . Update (12/28/04) : WhatGoesOn.com-
A fabber Christmas than promised!: "The BBC radio
special "A Beatles Christmas" aired today and it was a
fabulous broadcast. But much to the surprise of listeners, the program
had only partial resemblance to the information about the program given
out in advance on the BBC's official website."

"Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch"
Release Date: March 1, 2005, Warner Home Video
Details: Region 1; 56 minutes
Description From Amazon.com:
"The Pre-Fab Four are back, and
severely earnest television journalist S.J. Krammerhead (Eric Idle) is
hot on their story once again in The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch. A
welcome sequel to Monty Python star Idle's 1978 mockumentary The
Rutles: All You Need Is Cash, Can't Buy Me Lunch looks back on the
mythical Liverpool quartet's long and winding road. Meet anew the
group's caustic leader Ron Nasty (Neil Innes), cute bassist Dirk
McQuickley (Idle), quiet guitarist Stig O'Hara (Rikki Fataar), and
lovable drummer Barry Womble (John Halsey) as they sprint from the
Cavern Club through "A Hard Day's Rut," "Tragical History Tour" and
beyond. Krammerhead combines new celebrity interviews (Conan O'Brien,
Tom Hanks, Bonnie Raitt) with re-edited footage and outtakes from the
first film, and while the result isn't as sharp or urgent as Idle's
original parody, Can't Buy Me Lunch has many funny moments and good
inside jokes for Beatles enthusiasts." --Tom Keogh

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A Second Serving from Warner Home Video
THE RUTLES 2: CAN'T BUY ME LUNCH
Long-Awaited Sequel to The Rutles: All You Need is Cash
Available for the First Time on Video on March 1, 2005
All-star cast including Eric Idle, David Bowie, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy
Fallon, Jewel, Gary Shandling, Salman Rushdie, Clint Black, Billy
Connolly, Bonnie Raitt, and many more!
Burbank, CA (December 15, 2004) -- The Rutles are coming! The Rutles
are coming! Coming to DVD that is, on March 1, 2005 when Warner Home
Video presents the DVD premiere of The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch.
From executive producers Lorne Michaels and Eric Idle, this is the
highly anticipated sequel to The Rutles: All You Need is Cash.
Previously unavailable on video and only seen by fans in exclusive,
limited screenings, this hysterical follow-up to Eric Idle's1978
mockumentary about the Beatles reveals the final exploits of The Rutles
as they do a reunion tour through America.
Fans of The Rutles will be thrilled at the opportunity to revisit this
great band's story, including footage from historic performances, plus
interviews with many artists who were inspired by the legendary band
including, David Bowie, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Jewel, Gary
Shandling, Salman Rushdie, Clint Black, Billy Connolly, Bonnie Raitt,
and many more. The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch is packed with special
features including extensive deleted scenes, a never-before-seen
alternate ending, and a bonus "Easter egg."
In 1976, Eric Idle and Neil Innes, founding members of the cult
comedy-rock group The Bonzo Dog Band (chosen by The Beatles to appear
in their 1967 film Magical Mystery Tour), founded The Rutles, a
mythical band created to parody The Beatles. The Rutles made their
American debut that year with the airing of their first video, "I Must
Be in Love," on Saturday Night Live. In 1978 NBC aired the group's
first television special, All You Need is Cash, which was produced by
Lorne Michaels and firmly established the group's cult status.
The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch received its world premiere in Los
Angeles in 2003 at the first annual Don't Knock the Rock Festival, and
now makes its debut on DVD. Neil Innes wrote, recorded and produced all
the music - witty pastiches of Beatles songs, while Eric Idle wrote and
co-directed the spoof documentary. Both acted in All You Need is Cash,
and now are back in this sequel with Innes cast as Ron Nasty (the John
Lennon character) and Idle as Dirk McQuickly (the Paul McCartney role),
along with Ricky Fataar (a top session musician and '70s-era Beach Boy)
who plays Stig O'Hara (the George Harrison character), and British
drummer John Halsey, who became Barry Wom, The Rutles version of Ringo
Starr.
"The Beatles, Monty Python, The Rutles -- all influential entertainers
who have stood the test of time. The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch is a
must-have DVD for not only the passionate and dedicated core fans, but
also those who have only "heard" the legendary tales about the Rutles,"
said Christine Martinez, WHV Vice President, Non-theatrical Franchise
Marketing.

Remembering the Life of George Harrison
A new book by Genesis
Publications reveals a very personal insight into George Harrison, one
of the twentieth century’s best-loved songwriters.
(PRWEB) December 2, 2004 -- …I
remembered again what a marvelous human being we had in George
Harrison. George Martin
In 2001 George Harrison’s earthly
life came to an end and his passing was mourned the world over. But
when some of the world’s finest performers came together exactly one
year later for an unprecedented night of celebration, the Concert For
George taught us through remembering his life and music that George
Harrison would forever live on.
The new limited edition book
Concert For George, edited by Olivia Harrison & Brian Roylance, is
an extension of the celebration, created with love by the very same
people who knew him best. Featuring many previously unseen images of
the pivotal 2002 Royal Albert Hall performance, Concert For George
follows the story from rehearsals and sound checks, to the stage and
beyond.
Under the musical direction of
Eric Clapton, with George’s widow Olivia and son Dhani in attendance
from day one, artists from Europe and India including Ravi Shankar and
daughter Anoushka, Joe Brown, Jools Holland, Tom Petty and The
Heartbreakers, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and Monty Python
collaborators Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Michael Palin all gathered
together, finding a kind of healing, even a closeness to their departed
friend.
But this extraordinary volume is
more than a book about one concert: it’s about a lifetime. Eric Clapton
talks about George’s contrariness while Eric Idle, Michael Palin And
Ringo Starr reveal a quiet, social recluse who loved company and
couldn’t shut up. Many more share their thoughts including Tom Hanks,
Tom Petty, Ravi Shankar, Paul Theroux, George Martin, Terry Gilliam and
Olivia and Dhani Harrison.
Featuring images from acclaimed
rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky and celebrity snapper Richard Young,
Concert For George tells the story of George Harrison in 34,000 words
from the mouths of those who were there and who knew George best,
revealing a touching insight into the life of a Beatle, husband,
father, friend, artist and man.
Each copy is signed by Olivia and
comes in a silk-screened box. All royalties from the sale of this book
are donated to the Material World Charitable Foundation established by
George Harrison in 1973.

Universal City, CA. November 15,
2004 – Before anyone had ever heard of The Beatles, there was a group

Liverpool Oratorio was Paul
McCartney's first full-length work of classical music. It was first
released on VHS and the double-CD album topped the classical charts in
both the UK and the USA. The oratorio received its world premiere in
Liverpool Cathedral in 1991 and this momentous event was both recorded
and filmed by EMI Classics. Now available for the first time on DVD,
this new version includes a particular highlight as Paul performs 'In
Liverpool', a song which has never previously been released.
The oratorio was co-written with
conductor Carl Davis over two years, and Davis directs this performance
joined by soloists Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Jerry Hadley, Willard White and
Sally Burgess alongside The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and
Choir and the Liverpool Cathedral Choristers. The work is written in
eight movements and celebrates Paul’s home town. Initially following
Paul’s childhood through the character ‘Shanty’ the text is
chronological, opening with ‘War’ which describes the birth of a new
life during a World War II air raid. Subsequent movements are devoted
to life within School, growing-up, a wedding, work and the oratorio
finally concludes on a note of hope as Shanty and his wife sing a hymn
to God, family life and peace.
The DVD now features 5.1 surround
sound and the live recording of Liverpool Oratorio is coupled with the
documentary Ghosts of the Past, which provides an insight into the
making of the work. This was broadcast by the BBC shortly after the
release of the audio recording which is still available on CD.
Additional footage entitled Echoes, features Paul taking a nostalgic
visit around his old school which is now the Liverpool Institute of the
Performing Arts.

Press Release: AFTER 19
YEARS IN THE VAULTS, LIVE
AID, THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH, IS OFFICIALLY RELEASED ON DVD
Warner Vision International are
proud to announce that the biggest concert in Rock n’ Roll history,
Live Aid, will be released on DVD worldwide on November 1st, 2004. The
unforgettable global event, staged in London and Philadelphia on
Saturday 13 July 1985, was watched on television by over 1.5 billion
people around the world. These concerts led to pledged donations and
royalties of over $140 million towards the devastating famine in Africa.
Billed as The Greatest Show on
Earth, Live Aid was described by the world’s media as ‘The Global
Jukebox’, ‘The Day Rock and Roll Changed the World’ and ‘The greatest
live show ever’.
Live Aid was cited as the second
most memorable event in two generations and only two weeks ago was
defined, in a consumer poll, as the single greatest moment in the
50-year history of rock ‘n’ roll, beating not only the launch of MTV
and Elvis’ first record but also topping the poll ahead of the seminal
festival of the 60’s, Woodstock.
Live Aid, the greatest artists
playing the greatest music for the world’s poorest people and changing
the global political agenda forever.
Live Aid was uniquely staged
simultaneously on two continents and features an unbelievable line up
of major Rock & Pop acts that took to the stage in July 1985 at
London’s Wembley and Philadelphia’s JFK Stadiums.
Even today, after almost 20
years, the line up of stars put together by Bob Geldof in a matter of
months remains both remarkable and unsurpassed. It is a who’s who of
contemporary music; united in their unequivocal support for Live Aid to
prevent mass death for starving people.
The extraordinary line-up
includes: U2, Sting, David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael, The Who,
Madonna, Queen, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner,
Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Neil Young, Ozzy Osbourne & Black
Sabbath, Spandau Ballet, Dire Straits, Paul Weller, Sade, Paul Young,
Adam Ant, The Boomtown Rats, The Cars, Bryan Ferry, Bryan Adams, Tom
Petty & The Heartbreakers, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Beach
Boys, Judas Priest, The Style Council, Simple Minds, Thompson Twins,
Nile Rodgers, Hall & Oates, Status Quo, The Pretenders, Elvis
Costello, Howard Jones, Teddy Pendergrass, Alison Moyet, and Kenny
Logins.
Since that great day this
historic concert footage has remained locked away and the announcement
of its imminent DVD release is therefore indeed momentous. Unscrupulous
bootleggers have tried to sell the concert on the black market but have
been shut down and prosecuted on a number of occasions.
This has forced the Band Aid
Trust to seek permission from all the artists to be included in the
four-disc Live Aid set, an eventuality that was never anticipated at
the time of Live Aid.
Now in time for the 20th
anniversary of Live Aid and after 19 years in the vaults, Warner Vision
International will release those unforgettable performances on a Live
Aid, 4 DVD package out on 1st November.
Currently in production with the
master videotapes and over 10 hours of performances the DVD will be
superbly presented and re-mastered in multi-channel surround sound and
stereo audio options. Within the set additional gems include the “Food,
Trucks & Rock ‘n’ Roll” documentary (sub-titled in 8 languages) and
inspirational Live Aid performances from other parts of the globe.
Live Aid on DVD is the most
eagerly anticipated music DVD of the decade.
The Band Aid Trust is obliged to
maximise its assets and in a hotly-contested open bidding invitation
Warners secured a licence to represent and distribute, worldwide, the
Live Aid 4-disc set. Live Aid remains the asset of the Band Aid Trust.
Warner Vision International’s Ray
Still commented. "There is only one music event that begs the question
"Where were you on that day?" and that is Live Aid. Over 1.5 billion TV
viewers tuned in, on July 13 1985, to the extraordinary event that was
Live Aid.
It's an understatement to say
that it’s a great pleasure and an honour for Warner Vision to be
involved in bringing all the extraordinary moments and performances
that encapsulated Live Aid to DVD for the first time”.
Bob Geldof added: “Twenty years
ago they not only played “real good for free” they took an issue that
was nowhere on the agenda of the political world and placed it at the
very top.
They also kept, directly or
indirectly, millions of people alive and in so doing they reminded 1.5
billion people that individuals are not powerless in the face of
monstrous human tragedy.
By buying the Live Aid DVD that
day continues far off into some distant but hopefully better future for
all those people in whose name those great artists played”.
Since the concert the Band Aid
Trust in the UK alone has raised over $50 million and continues to
operate in famine affected countries in Africa.
