The historic, record-breaking success of the Beatles' 1 CD that spanned 2000-2001, followed by the phenomenal chart breakthrough in May of WINGSPAN, the double-CD collection from Paul McCartney and Wings - now adds another dimension with the long-awaited home video release of the expanded WINGSPAN feature-length special, scheduled for November 13th in-store date. The 88-minute WINGSPAN home video will be available in VHS and interactive DVD formats. Clocking in with 151 minutes of music on two CDs, WINGSPAN is the soundtrack of the evolution of a simple, back-to-basics band into one of the biggest-selling acts of the rock era. June 5, 2001 - RIAA Press Release: (EW)(CA-CAPITOL/WINGSPAN) 'WINGSPAN' Double-CD Certified RIAA Double-Platinum
Entertainment Editors & Music Writers
LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 4, 2001--Generations of fans new and old discovered the magic of the Beatles' 1 CD and turned it into one of the biggest multi-platinum success stories of 2000-2001.
On June 5, one month after the release of "WINGSPAN," the 40-song collection from Paul McCartney and Wings, will be certified double Platinum by the RIAA. "WINGSPAN," which entered the Billboard 200 Album chart at No. 2, was not only the highest debut album of the week, but also represented McCartney's biggest-selling first week of the SoundScan era, and the fastest-selling release of the McCartney post-Beatles era.
"Wings brought us the purest pop of pop's purest decade," said People magazine, which featured "WINGSPAN" as the "Album of the Week" in the June 4 issue.
"'WINGSPAN,'" noted Billboard magazine, "ranges far and wide across McCartney's genius for lyrical melody ('Maybe I'm Amazed,' the inexplicably touching 'Let 'Em In'), pure rock 'n' roll insouciance ('Junior's Farm,' the hip, Lennon-esque 'Let Me Roll It'), and epic theatricality ('Band on the Run,' 'Live and Let Die')."
"WINGSPAN," which clocks in with 151 minutes of music on two CDs (disc one is conceptually titled "Hits" and disc two is "History"), emerges as the soundtrack of a simple, back-to-basics band's evolution into one of the biggest-selling acts of the rock era.
Among the 40 tracks are 20 sides that reached the top 10 in America and England, including the No. 1's "Listen To What The Man Said," "Band On The Run," "My Love," "Silly Love Songs," "Pipes Of Peace," "Mull Of Kintyre," "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey," "With A Little Luck," and "Coming Up."
"WINGSPAN" is also the subject of a new series of officially authorized full-color postcards, which can be sent worldwide and are currently available online. These hard-copy -- not virtual -- postcards, were produced in conjunction with the popular Amazingmail.com and are accessible at http://www.paulmccartney.com/ or via the Paul McCartney artist link at http://www.hollywoodandvine.com/. Fans can select three free postcards, after which there is a nominal charge.

Wingspan Remains in the Top Ten On the Billboard Album Chart
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 23,
2001--
PAUL McCARTNEY will follow the recent release of his 'Wingspan' TV film
and album with a 'Wingspan' book that will publish for the first time
the
never-seen backstage rock photography of his late wife Linda. WINGSPAN,
the 40 song double CD from Paul McCartney and Wings, entered the
Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #2, making
it the highest debut album that week and fastest selling post-Beatles
album
of McCartney's career. The album remains in the Billboard Album Chart
Top
10 in its second week.
Just as the Beatles carved up their 'Anthology' project into a TV documentary, albums and hefty autobiography, Paul is to follow suit with his acclaimed Wings retrospective. The 'Wingspan' biography will be centered around Linda McCartney's pictures from her ``lost decade,'' the Seventies years during which Linda stopped her career as a photographer in order to play keyboards in her husband's band, Wings.
Prior to Wings, Linda McCartney established herself as rock and roll's foremost female photographer. In the Sixties, as Linda Eastman, she photographed all the legends of rock - including The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and The Beatles.
A collection of her pictures from the time - 'Sixties; Portrait Of An Era' - was published in 1992 and became an international best-seller, with more than 200,000 copies sold.
Before her death in 1998, Linda McCartney said: "Playing in a band totally stopped me from being a working photographer, my career just stopped. Before that I was taking pictures for all sorts of magazines and was working on photographs for a book about rock and roll. But it stopped because I joined a band and all the time that I was in that band was time that I would have been taking photographs.''
"Photography was more important to me than music - but my husband and my family were more important to me than photography, and I was prepared to give up photography for them.''
But now it will be revealed that Linda didn't stop taking her rock-pop pictures. Although playing in Wings stopped her working as a photographer, in private throughout the Seventies she continued to record the rock and roll way of life.
Now these never-seen pictures will be published later this year in a 'Wingspan' biography along with text by Paul McCartney that will be more detailed and revealing than his interview for the 'Wingspan' TV documentary.
Said Paul McCartney: "Because of her perception, Linda could see the way you are inside, beyond the act or the image, and it was that honest reality that she photographed. Linda had an eye for honesty, she saw the truth and that shines through all of the images that she produced. Her pictures are all very natural, nothing was posed''.

WINGSPAN, the two-hour inside story of how Paul and Linda McCartney dared to follow the Beatles with their rock band Wings, will be told for the first time on Canadian television on Sunday, June 3 at 8 p.m. on CBC Television.
A dramatic and revealing film, WINGSPAN contains extensive, candid interviews with McCartney and tells the story of how, while trying to raise a young family, the McCartneys proved there was life after the greatest rock band ever. Paul and Linda's Wings was a back-to-basics band that rose from square one to become one of the biggest rock bands of the '70s.
Featuring never-seen home movies of Paul and Linda and their family, as well as previously private archival band footage and rare concert film of Wings, WINGSPAN tells how McCartney, devastated by the breakup of The Beatles, restarted his career from scratch with Linda, their children, pet dogs and the band driving around Britain asking for work. Instead of arriving at stadium concerts in police-escorted limousines, Wings began with the band driving in a van to small halls unannounced and uninvited. Entry to their impromptu shows cost 33 cents.
WINGSPAN's producer/director Alistair Donald was personally asked to make the film by both Paul and Linda. Said Donald: "Making Wingspan initially involved months of searching through archives and collections around the world to compile the best footage, photographs and audio available. We discovered a lot of excellent, rare and never-seen material."
"I wanted to have Paul tell us the story of Wings as the on-screen link," continued Donald. "This meant that not only could he give the footage an authoritative perspective, but also that he could provide Linda's view, which is essential as the story of Wings is equally the story of a marriage and a family."
Besides following Paul and Linda's family life from 1970-1980, Wingspan will reveal how, despite the handicap of lawsuits, pot busts and BBC airplay bans, Wings soared to success with hit singles, No. 1 albums and eventually a U.S. stadium show even bigger than that of The Beatles.

Press Release
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 16, 2001--The recent success of the Beatles 1 CD left an indelible mark upon the musical landscape and undoubtedly introduced a new generation of fans to the Beatles. Now, hot on the heels of that accomplishment, comes word that WINGSPAN, the 40 song double CD from Paul McCartney and Wings, which chronicles the second chapter of Paul McCartney's musical journey, enters the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at No. 2, making it the highest debut album this week. WINGSPAN, which includes 17 hits that sold more than a million copies each, marks not only McCartney's biggest selling first week of the SoundScan era, but also the fastest selling release of the McCartney post-Beatles era.
The album's phenomenal success comes on the heels of the highly anticipated, critically hailed ABC Television Special - “Wingspan,” which was seen by an estimated 15 million viewers this past Friday night, and an unprecedented media campaign which has seen massive print coverage and television support on ABC Network, as well as VHI and other nationally syndicated television programs.
“Certainly, the extraordinary first week success of WINGSPAN underscores the timelessness and breadth of McCartney's contributions to contemporary pop music. That this circa 1970's - early `80s collection should strike a chord with today's audience is a distinguished accomplishment, and an apt follow up to the multi-platinum Beatles 1 CD,” says Capitol Records President & CEO, Andrew Slater.
WINGSPAN, clocking in with 151 minutes of music on two CDs (disc one is conceptually titled Hits and disc two is History), emerges as the soundtrack of a simple, back-to-basics band's evolution into one of the biggest-selling acts of the rock era. In a span of nine years, Wings soared to international success with five No. 1 albums and eventually a USA stadium show that broke the Beatles' attendance record. Among the 40 tracks are 17 hits that were certified Platinum in America and England, including “Maybe I'm Amazed,” “Live And Let Die,” “My Love,” “Band On The Run,” “Listen To What The Man Said,” “Silly Love Songs,” “With A Little Luck” and “Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey.” As a bonus, the double-CD package is being marketed to sell for the price of a single album.
The advent of music of two-to-three decade vintage debuting at No. 2 is a phenomenon reserved for very few popular artists indeed -- just another one in the many accomplishments of Paul McCartney.
Check out the official Paul McCartney and Wings website at http://paulmccartney.com where you can send a Wings player to a friend that contains a track-by-track commentary by Paul McCartney, a video medley, downloads and more.

Wingspan -- The New Album From Paul McCartney Released May 8th -- With Two-Hour Movie
Wingspan Chronicles The Hits And The History of Paul McCartney's Wings
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--April 2, 2001--Wingspan will feature 40 songs, including 17 hits that sold more than a million copies each; two-and-a-half hours of McCartney music on a double CD that will sell for the price of a single album. Wingspan (Capitol Records) is the soundtrack of how Paul McCartney dared to follow The Beatles with Wings in the Seventies; forming with his wife Linda an initially back-to-basics band that rose to become one of the biggest selling acts of the era.
Wingspan will be launched in tandem with a two-hour film of the same title that tells the intimate inside story of Wings for the first time on television. The film will be world-premiered on Friday, May 11th, at 9:00 pm on ABC. The Wingspan film has been three years in the making. It candidly reveals how Paul and Linda tried to raise a young family and front a new band against the handicaps of battling the Beatles, pot busts by police and bans by the BBC.
Despite setting themselves the hardest job in rock & roll, in the space of nine years Wings soared to international success with 17 million-seller singles, five USA No. 1 albums and eventually a USA stadium show that broke The Beatles' attendance record.
The two-CD Wingspan album totals 151 minutes of music. CD1 -- the "Hits'' disc -- features; Listen To What The Man Said, Band On The Run, Another Day, Live And Let Die, Jet, My Love, Silly Love Songs, Pipes Of Peace, C Moon, Hi Hi Hi, Let 'Em In, Goodnight Tonight, Junior's Farm (DJ edit), Mull Of Kintyre, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, With A Little Luck (DJ edit), Coming Up and No More Lonely Nights.
CD2 -- the "History'' disc -- features: Let Me Roll It, The Lovely Linda, Daytime Nightime Suffering, Maybe I'm Amazed, Helen Wheels, Bluebird, Heart Of The Country, Every Night, Take It Away, Junk, Man We Was Lonely, Venus And Mars/Rockshow (single edit), Back Seat Of My Car, Rockestra Theme, Girlfriend, Waterfalls (DJ edit), Tomorrow, Too Many People, Call Me Back Again, Tug Of War, Bip Bop/Hey Diddle and No More Lonely Nights (playout version).
Said Paul McCartney: "I thought I should choose an album that I like. Just like Wings itself, this album doesn't stick to any particular rules -- but in my mind it's the best of that period.''
March 4, 2001 - ABC Press Release:
FOR THE FIRST TIME ON TELEVISION, "WINGSPAN" ... THE TWO-HOUR STORY OF HOW PAUL AND LINDA McCARTNEY DARED TO FOLLOW THE BEATLES - WILL HAVE ITS WORLD PREMIERE THIS MAY ON THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK
"Wingspan," the two-hour inside story of how Paul and Linda McCartney dared to follow The Beatles with their rock band Wings, will be told for the first time on television when it is world-premiered FRIDAY, MAY 11 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.
The dramatic and revealing film ... which is led by extensive and candid interviews with Paul McCartney ... tells the very human story of how, while trying to raise a young family and follow The Beatles, Paul and Linda formed a back-to-basics band that rose to become one of the biggest rock bands of the '70s.
Featuring never-before-seen home movies of Paul and Linda and their family, previously private band archives and rare concert film of Wings, "Wingspan" will show how Paul McCartney, devastated by the break-up of The Beatles, restarted his career from scratch ... Linda, their children, pet dogs and the band driving around Britain with him, asking for work. Instead of arriving at stadium concerts in police-escorted limousines, Wings began by driving themselves ... in a van ... to small halls, unannounced and uninvited. Admission to their impromptu shows cost 33 cents.
"Wingspan's" producer/director, Alistair Donald, was personally asked to make the film by both Paul and Linda. Says Donald: "Making 'Wingspan' initially involved months of searching through archives and collections around the world to compile the best footage, photographs and audio available. We discovered a lot of excellent, rare and never-seen material."
"I wanted to have Paul tell us the story of Wings as the on-screen link," he goes on. "This meant that not only could he give the footage an authoritative perspective, but also that he could provide Linda's view, which is essential, as the story of Wings is equally the story of a marriage and a family".
Besides following Paul and Linda's family life from 1970-1980, "Wingpsan" reveals that, despite the handicap of lawsuits, pot busts and BBC airplay bans, Wings soared to success with hit singles, No.1 albums and, eventually, a USA stadium show even bigger than that of The Beatles.
"I always thought that you couldn't follow The Beatles", McCartney says. "'Wingspan' is the story and the soundtrack of how we set out to do it. I was actually competing with myself and it was certainly very hard. Looking back on it, I think that's the drama of Wings. It's a very human story".
Following the world premiere on ABC,
"Wingspan"
will be broadcast around the world. Along with the film, EMI/Capitol
Records
will release, on May 8th, the "Wingspan" album, featuring 40 Wings
songs.
